Thankfully, we did not lose a single animal during Hurricane Matthew. All of the new enclosures that have been built and existing ones that have been repaired are still standing strong! However, the grounds of Second Chance Wildlife Sanctuary took a hard hit during the hurricane. The biggest issues we’re facing are the fence that was completely knocked over and the several trees that are down. It will take us a while to recover, but we will get there. Any donations are genuinely appreciated.

After Hurricane Matthew, we received 29 calls about lost and abandoned baby squirrels. We see countless numbers of distressed native wildlife such as birds and squirrels every year that are displaced by habitat loss, dropping temperatures and storm damage. It’s so nice to see all of the people who care and are rescuing them following the storm. We do everything we can to stabilize and rehabilitate these animals before releasing them back into the wild.
